Did you build that in reverse, Bob?(inside out?) Because I admire you if you did since the one time I tried it, I found it to be nothing more an exercise in frustration!

Yes, they were built inside out. All the join areas requiring glue had the surface scratched away for proper adhesion thereby causing no real problems.

Try the pressure cooker trick. You don't have to waste time preparing the can surface, and besides it looks real cool!

For building smaller models, using card stock as tabs and formers give you a snug fit. Examples, the SPAD is 1/33 while the Diamond DA40 Star is 1/100. The realistic look is comparable to building it in paper, apart from the surface graphics. Paper as a joiner is easier to manoeuvre than alum strips, though I have no strong view against it. As a matter of fact, I have used Loctite 28630 to close engine cowls on my new builds to my satisfaction.

That actually makes sense papermate and that is probably where the main advantage lies with using your technique. Since I typically don't build anything less than 1/48th scale, I more than likely don't run into the same type of fit issues that you do.

So my conclusion must be papermate, that you are actually far younger than I since my old hands and eyes will no longer allow me to build as tiny as you do at your given scale and so I must resort to building it BIG!!!

Borrowing from Young Can Cook, I would say that if Papermate can do papermodelling, so can anyone.

Frankly, Gman, your works inspired me to do cans modelling. I want to establish a link between paper and aluminium cans, so I have adopted this method of using card (paper) to co-relate or link up the two media. I have very high regards for your big models that I don't dare to even think about it mainly because of storage problems. If I had a large basement like people in Canada and the States, it would be an entirely different story.

Just in case you're curious, I build at home, occupying half of the dining table, thus get harsh critics from my C-in-Chief from time to time. I have also a co-rented studio where I can get utmost satisfaction of building big, but after that the finished thing will definitely go to landfill site sooner than expected.
