Building a clear canopy (and thus an interior) is no easy thing as Murph's models don't usually
come with an interior. So, may have to look at others that won't be too much work to do.

I think where I am going with this, is that its less about an interior as it is about the novelty that these works of art are created out of aluminum cans. Those of us who choose to build within this medium understand that it is not as widespread as plastic or paper modeling so sparking interest and inspiring others to try a build or two is paramount to preserving the art.

Building with a clear canopy gives the curious onlooker the ability to see that it is truly all can and not simply can overlaid across an complex underlayment that takes away from the novelty. When I built my R2 Astromech, for example, I made it easy for others to see inside of him so that they could see he was indeed every bit aluminum. Just some casual observations from a fellow can modeler...

Thanks for your insight Gman. About interior, please see my first post showing the pilot's office all in aluminium. There's the window frame and a clear plastic canopy, possibly vac formed was planned. However, the complexity of the kit if built all in aluminium killed the project. I was then using the inside of the can to make the fuselage of the model which is left in the state as shown. At that time, I was not aware of the use of paper as a median to CA glue the parts together. Maybe someday, I'll go back to finish that one.

Thank you once again for making comments and your invaluable ideas.

Soda Can Vought F4U Corsair based on Murph's Models, 1/33

The soda can Vought F4U Corsair, 1/33, is now completed with an add-on, namely, a drop tank from another kit. Props spin and the prop's relatively huge on the real thing, isn't it?

Papermate,

I am sure this has been asked before......

What glue do you use?
Any special treatment of the aluminium before gluing?

TQ.

Thanks, Gil. It's not Asahi beer but way cheaper. I don't actually drink much but just love the shiny cans.

Karl, thanks, it's just CA glue with plain paper as a median between the alumimium. No treatment was given to the aluminium but I masked it with sticky tapes to prevent messiness. However, it will take lots of time removing the sticky tapes at the last stage.

You can use many types of glue such as Jet, Testors or even Loctite Gel if you have some Goof off available. Some of the other builders I've talked to over the years swear by Quickgrip or even Gorilla glue, so I am sure its all a preference. I think it really depends on how you choose to build. Me personally, I don't use any understructure so I prefer Loctite. The Goof off removes any residue rather nicely without taking off the paint, if you are careful. As papermate mentioned, no treatment to the aluminum surface of the can is required other than a good washing with warm soap and water prior to shelling the cans...

Hmmm... how many nicks, scratches and cuts per hand per model?

I don't know about papermate, but if I don't get cut at LEAST once, its just not a good model...
