Collecting Insulators

Just wondering, am I the only one here who collects old line insulators? I have over 250 insulators new and old, if anyone else has a collection, I would love to see It!

I recently sold a collection of about 100 glass insulators.
My late father had collected them over about 30 years.
They lined some shelves in a large work shed in the backyard.
Its surprising how big of a interest it is here in Canada.

I used to have a few ones in blue glass, but over the years they've kinda just disappeared.

Not specifically about insulators, but they do get mentioned often here ... The Telegraph Pole Appreciation Society – What it says
Us Brits are nuts about the whole pole, not just it's decorative bits.

Yep, I'm a member. Long time ago now, but I used to dress and plant these things. P.L.O.H. ... a much missed communications art.

Ah well, what can I say John!

I have some fine specimens outside the house - of which I have felt part ownership for, ever since (on a dark and stormy night) the electricity department asked me for some wire coat hangers. As I was at the time powerless to refuse, I grouped around and provided some - which they then incorporated into the wiring on the top of the pole.

As they now spark and bang on stormy nights I admire them protectively...

(PS - I have known of people who collected insulators and found some missing. They got a bit of a shock).

My father also told me that he used to shoot at insulators when he was a farm boy back in the 1930's.

What's crazy is how far insulators have gone, from glass, to porcelain, to silicon polymer. I have seen a lot of times where the porcelain insulators have been shot at, and the pole being non-insulated, that's the reason why most companies are starting to use polymer (virtually bulletproof)
