3D anaglyphs

I'm an artist...airbrush specifically, but many other types of art.
and yes, I recently became fascinated with Paper Models.

But I have had a life long interest in 3D

Movies (old Horror and stuff), Photos, Comics, etc
anything that uses the Red/Blue, Red/Green Glasses.

Yes, the classic 3D silly glasses.

Although todays 3D images are pretty amazing.

The internet has provided me with access to an entire library of 3D anaglyph images, and I have amassed a very large collection.
I also enjoy producing some of my own 3D images.

heres a few examples that I have created...dig out those 3D glasses!
(you might have to try different glasses for some of the images)
I think these are all Red/Blue glasses images.

My very first attempt at a 3D anaglyph. this is a Show Truck I painted, and using a single photo from the car Show, I created this anaglyph. Unfortunately the 3D effect is way too strong on this one!

The same Show Truck at a later show (we won Best of Show this time!)...and another, better 3D image from a single photograph.

This promotional photograph was created for a friend/business associate who builds custom cars. He built this "Munsters" Coffin Car and so I used a single photo of the car, my own digital background and the logo I created to make this 3D image.

This Hot Wheels Spliitin Image 3D I created using 2 digital photos take at slightly different angles.

A photo of my Mother's Garden/Yard...3D using one original digital photo.

One of my favorite 3D images to date...I made this desktop image for my PC, using a single photo (I found online). ZZ Top...3 members...in 3D

and probably my most complicated 3D image.

Spiderman took one single original image...I created a dozen different layer images and then produced a simulated right and left digital image.

The final 3D anaglyph is 1600px x 1200px at 300dpi!

This is a much smaller version...

Thumbs up

Interesting stuff.

A few years back when all of that Mars rover stuff was the hot topic NASA put together a website explaining how to make 3D anaglyphs with Photo Shop using two offset photos of the Martian terrain.
Mars 3D anaglyphs

I did not have Photo Shop so started looking for ways to make them using PaintShop Pro and found these sites.
PSP 5 3D Anaglyphs using 1 photo
PSP 7 3D Anaglyphs using 2 offset photos

You get some interesting results. I am still (sorta) working on making the results color instead of grey scale.

Mars 3D anaglyphs
I never saw this tutorial...although I know NASA issued their own Mars 3D photos. I have many of them
...some are nice and large and well detailed.
The Rover was equipped with its own Anaglyph Stereoscopic camera
and NASA has been able to create some fantastic 3D shots of the Mars surface.

heres one of NASAs photos:

one of the problems I have noticed with filtered anaglyphs (created in Photoshop, etc)
is the 3D effect is usually pretty good but the images are very red/blue and lose all their natural colours.
This works just fine for Black & White images...

It is not hard to create good 3D effect and still retain a natural looking photo with all its full colour.

More 3D Anaglyphs

I've been a 3D fan for decades. I also have made some anaglyphs of old black&white photos. They can be viewed at:

Stereo Images

and a couple of "cross-eyed" models at my website at:

Rigby Paper Model Club

Orazio...BELLISIMO! (is that right?)

beautiful 3D...but FANTASTIC photos of Italia!!!

I have "stolen" many for my personal collection!!

(I have collected hundreds of Anaglyphs...but just for personal use ONLY!...one day I will burn a disc of all my Anaglyphs and share?)

Mike Province....those shots of Patton are fantastic!!! and they look so much better in 3D!
I wish they were bigger, to "steal" for my collection (I have a tendency to save only full screen type images LOL)

The "cross-eyed" stuff I could never deal with...although we do have a couple of Stereo viewers, and those images are fun too.

Thank you both! for sharing!!
