Made a bit more progress now.

Frame 107 finished now.

And this is frame 92.

So these are the 5 frames I've completed so far.

There are 17 main frames for the entire ship. The tail section is quite interesting. I only kind of see how it goes together. Guess I'll see the rest when I'm putting it together.

I also plan to build the inner decks from card stock. But I'm not sure how I'm going to manage the windows yet. The engine cars will also be an interesting side project. (See what I did there? (-: )

But for right now, I'll just keep making frames.

Cheers,

John Gay

And now I add Frame 77 to the mix.

6 Frames done, at least 11 to go.

So far I am only doing the mail frames. These are the frames that were between the Hydrogen cells of the airship. There were also two Intermediate ring around each cell as well.
For most of the airship these are near enough to a straight line between the main frames that they are not necessary at this scale. But forward of frame 218 and the tail portion have a significant curve, so I might need to add a few of these intermediate frames to get the shape correct.

But that is still at least 11 main frames away right now.

Finished Frame 62, so I now have 7 frames complete.

And now I'm staring on the first frame that includes the tail fins.

There are three of these frames and then a very small frame for the end of the airship.
Then I can start on the forward frames.
The tail fins will be an interesting build all in their own. The drawings give lots of details, but some things I just need to physically see to understand how they go together. That's what I like about Paper modelling, I can actually build the structure and see it from any angle.
The Bow mooring section will also be an interesting build.

At least I'm making some progress on this.

Cheers,

John Gay

Sorry for the long hiatus, but I've been home from work due to the Corona virus shutdown.
On the positive side, I've made a bit more progress on my model.

Here is the model with all the frames finished and all the stringers attached in all it's 4 feet of glory!
The bow was a bit of a challenge due to the small frames not being strong enough for the stress of 32 stringers bowed in. Had to re-inforce the bow section with CA glue, but only after the fact and it's not great.
Fortunately, I plan to display it out of reach so it should only bother me.

And this is the tail section finished.

The model is now ready for tissue and dope.
The frame weighs just under 50 grams as it stands now. But hydrogen at this volume will only lift 27 grams. But I knew this going in. If I double the model to 1:100 scale, the lift with increase by a factor of 8! The weight should increase by a factor between 2 and 4. But I would still need to add gas bladders and the tissue so I don't know if the 8 foot model would float either.
Not to mention the having to find somewhere else to live after the wife kicks me out if I start building an 8 foot long Hindenburg!

Nice building job! Having built a few stick and tissue planes in my time, and knowing how many 1/16" stringers got cracked or broken after assembly, I cringe simply looking at the pic of the completed framework. I look forward to seeing the model completed!
