Thanks for the Birthday wishes everybody. I was able to get a replacement laptop (this one actually found the 5G wifi signal!), and now I'm in recovery mode. Got Rhino and Photoshop loaded, now I just need to recover my models folder from the other laptop. Which is more of a time thing than a "Can I do it" thing. I'm becoming somewhat of an expert at recovering files from dead laptops.

Get an external hard drive of some kind.You likely don't need one over 1TB so it will be cheap and keep all your files in it instead of a work laptop.It will save you a lot of headache.
BTw-don't keep external drive hooked to laptop permanently.consider it a "lifeboat",not part of the system.

I have an external hard drive. I just need to work on updating it more regularly. Last time I backed up was 2 weeks ago, so everything I'd done since is still on the laptop drive.
