New NASA Space Capsule model
One of the many joys of working at the local air and space museum is that I can get my hands on certain things early. One is the new model of the Orion capsules that are set to replace the space shuttle. The model is in book form and is a tab and slot construction type. I believe it come from Lockheed-Martin, the company that designed the capsule. I have some pictures here. It only took about 10 minutes to build WITH my six-month old son hanging on me. It's simple and neat to look at.

Thats a pretty nice result for ten minutes work. I remember when many companies used to give away promotional models of this type.

I did a quick net search and found this model,...... and many others at www.spaceday.org an extraordinary space education site. Click on Teachers/Event Planners and then on Products to see all the models. And here is a direct link:

Great find Cecil, that's the exact kit I got. The only difference being that the one I had was printed on glossy stock and perforated.

Lockheed Martin recently republished this model. I was able to get my hands on it and built it. It is considerably more detailed than the first. Enjoy

It's still there. Go to the Resources drop-down list and click on "Space day Products". the Orion is the first thing listed.

The model on the site is the first and less detailed one. It's still a good one none the less. Just a tip though if you build it, reinforce the solar array arms. They droop very quickly.
