Yeah, NASA photos are public domain. The restriction is that you can't use an astronaut's likeness for advertising or anything like that (Because Buzz Aldrin raised hell when his pictures were used in ads <______<)

my thoughts were that I could use the internet photograph for the visor artwork?,.. possibly even to print out on water slide decal paper and place onto a vaccuum form acetate visor ? much like pl_ __c models? if i adhered it to the inside of the acetate it would have that nice shiny finish and protected?,.. maybe a dumb idea or too much work,.. just a thought

I decided to redo the helmet and visor. Minor stuff to correct the shape. I finished the graphics on the reflection - note the camera and the left hand holding the flag pole (in the reflection). Everything fits great now.
Next: Gloves... Ken

Thanks guys!
I am trying to come up with an idea for a diorama.. The background has to be BLACK. I mean true "BLACK"; not SR-71 black. The black background will bring out some realism to the reflective visor. Also, I was thinking of painting a backlit ping-pong ball (cut in half) - painted like the Earth and placed on the background. Just an idea.... Ken

There are options like black cardstok, or black fabrics. My personal choice would be black fabric (maybe black velvet fabric or velvety cotton) because it is easy to transport and to manipulate and gets great results for the background of photos. Though I don't know how it would look like in a diorama. You may have to use a sturdy back cardboard to support it. This looks sooo great. I loved it from the beginning. Now I'm ashamed of my own poor plasticine astronaut (here, here )
