Skylab came down like MIR, right?
It isn't still in Space is it?

Which one had the fire? MIR?

I think, that is yet a long way to finished....

For the first a hint for those, who want to build the interieur....
How you can see, in the picture is the inner tube.
There are in the kit the floor and the ceiling to print on clear plastic and any walls.
It's easy to fold and glue this into tube, than close it with an frame and put into the outer tube, and have to position it (for help to position you can take the window on inner and outer tube).
But I haven't done this, because it's nothing to see, when finished....

It's coming along great so far! I've never finished that Skylab, simply because I was stymied by the lack of instructions.

It's strange that you mention that. I have Yogi's Skylab printed along with an AXM Columbia scaled to fit. I was thinking about how to build the interface adapter and the power module mentioned in that old study.
Certainly something to think about...

@Dave, Skylab came down loooong before Mir. After the three visits in 1973-74 the station was abandoned. There only was one Apollo CSM + Saturn 1b left for the Apollo Soyuz project and in 1975 manned US space activities came to a halt. The US wanted to wait until the Shuttle was ready to give the station a second life. Skylabs orbit was deteriorating and NASA wanted to boost the station up to a highter orbit with a shuttle brought booster engine in 1979/1980, which was the predicted date of the first shuttle launch. But in 1978 there was a lot of solar activity and that caused the earth's atmosphere to get thicker and bigger. Skylab started to fall out of its orbit. It burnt up in the summer of 1979 over the Pacific. Some big chunks came down in the Australian outback.
Mir burnt up on reentry twenty years later.

@ Joe: It is the same thing that's been playing through my mind all day today. I made some sketches and studied the Martin Marietta document a lot. It is very interesting stuff. Especially the spiral shaped structure they proposed on its back! Weird!

@ Michael: Are you going to reinforce the hull with something? The interior does give a kind of sturdyness to the cylinder and the whole structure is quite large.

Yes, of course I have built the inner tube with frames and put into the outer tube, but without the interior walls and plastic floors....
you need it also for position the hemispheres.

It is sometimes a little step further.
There are two things:
1. to assign all parts. it's not so hard, because all sheets are named with the section of skylab to which they belong.
2. to find the right design, this has changed over the years....
I've searched the net for hours for photos, and more found.
Largely following helpful pages:
from NASA:
Marshall Image eXchange

and a plastic model photographed clean:

Skylab pictures by Sava_Fett - Photobucket

but especially this photo (1).
So I'm the lower end by Corel redesigned and it looks very nice?

Then there were the accessories of the OWS to the series ...
The cable channels are indeed present, but unfortunately too small to make .... so new, again helped Corel. All other acc. are not available, I had to prepare themselves for photos.
The holders of the solar wings I've already tuned these fit again.
Now even the upper part, which receives the Airlock.
The big parts are even already cut out....

Wow, that goes amazingly well. I never have seen this model being built before. Is Carl watching? (Hey, Carl! check this out!) I like the colours and your tweaks. Good work, Michael!
Wirklich Toll!

One of the largest chunks (Hydrazine tank IIRC) of Skylab is on display not far from UAH at the US Space and Rocket Center.

I have a problem with the scale...
The Skylab was ca. 6,6 m in Diameter. The model ist 10 cm...so is the scale 1:66.. and not 1:48...
Now I have measure one sheet in A4...there is the diameter 15,6 cm...this would be 1:42...and not 1:32....
So that it must be in A3 to scale 1:32...
I have seen it, when I tested my 1:48 CM/SM with the skylab...
Normally I had to start again...but all print new, cut new, glue new....
