AXM Orbital ATK OA5 - Job Application
So, I lost my job last week. The silver lining is that now I have an opportunity to apply for my dream job as an engineer at Orbital ATK, whose offices are literally right down the road from where I live.
I applied online, but they haven't called back. So, trying to think of ways to get through to them, my wife brought up the guy who applied by taping his resume to the inside of a box of donuts, and suggested that I do something similar. So, without further ado, my job application to Orbital ATK: My cover letter and resume packed into the cargo hold of Cygnus OA-5, inside the Antares 230 launch vehicle. Now I just need to figure out who to give it to :D

Dabeer,
This is the most creative way to apply for a job and at the same time it's so inspiring. So unique!! I wish you the best of luck! |

That is creative. I hope it pays off. I'm wondering about folding up a CV into that small a space, though. You'll be providing another, unfolded copy, right? Or sticking it on a thumb drive that fits under the shroud?

Dabeer, I'll follow David's advice. The thumb drive sounds a better choice.

I provided links to the cover letter and resume on google drive on the baseplate, edited out of the photos I posted here. That being said, I did fold very carefully, prescoring the fold lines, so that it would be as good as possible when unfolded. I also presented to my old boss, asking his opinion on what he would do if he received a resume that looked like that. He said if he knew it came out of a model, he'd be more forgiving, but that the inclusion of links was pretty much necessary. I did start to have second thoughts about the idea when I realized how badly the resume gets crumpled due to folding, but by then I'd already finished the model, so I figured there's no point in not continuing. I hope it pays off, too :D Edit: I may include a clean copy in an envelope, just in case. Better safe than sorry, I guess!

Not sure the model had anything to do with it, but I got the job at Orbital ATK!
Kinda funny, really - I applied online and didn't hear back, and then the day I was going to deliver the model to their office, I got a call from a recruiter who'd found my resume online and thought I'd be great for a new position that was opening up and hadn't been posted yet. I brought the model to the interview anyway, because why not. Now I can relax and enjoy a week off before I start - plenty of model building time!

Congrats, now you have something to display at IPMC Sterling in November, people love a model with a story, and this is one.
