More updates.

We have banana!

I also went ahead with the horizontal stabilizers.

Last pictures show that there is a little tab to put the winglets / auxiliary stabilizers (help on the names of these thingies will be appreciated). Then we slide in those tabs into the auxiliar stabilizers.
Hey, nice progress!!

I think 220gr. is definately too thick, but 80gr. is way too thin! How about something in between, like 120-180gr? That's what everybody uses most of the time, unless stated otherwise by the designer.

Good luck, can't wait to see it completed

Saludos!
Mauri
I myself once built my first SCA entirely out of 80grms paper, so it can be done.
There's only one disadvantage... sunlight shines right through

I also made the AA-SCA with the orbiter Enterprise on top.
That one I've made out of 135grms paper.(except for the small parts and the T-38 escort jets)

My idea was to complete this model by Friday, April 29th, initial Shuttle launch. But I gave not much time on the build (Holy Week, kids out of school, family activities). I guess I have the "luck" Endeavour wasn't launched that day, so I reschedule my building for completion not before May 8th, which is the next attempt for launch. Hopefully, the model will be ready for launch event.
One more thing,
Like more members have said:
NEVER set a deadline while building a papermodel.
This won't do the outcome any good.
Take your time.

I only did it once. (don't tell, lol)
Last year I tried to finish my American Airlines SCA/Enterprise diorama before the 12th of august... I succeeded.

(re)Designing/building my first SCA took me, I believe, seven months.
I don't exactly remember, ask Alfonso (AXM)

Sorry for the big delay on this model. But work and family keeps me away from the forum sometimes.

Last time I saw the SCA/Shuttle set was about 3 years ago, but from Juarez as they were climbing over the El Paso/Juarez skies. It was a great view. But the aircraft itself, you can see it every October in the Amigo Air Sho at Fort Bliss (just behind El Paso airport).

You are right about that, Mauri. When I went to the print shop, they had only that kind of paper. For me it was just a matter of taking extra care. Gracias!

The best of lucks! But I guess you will have to use thinner paper, right?

Richard, thank you for your insights. In fact, lately I always set myself a deadline, because I've been attending IPMS events here in Mexico. But I totally agree that, as Geri says in the Toy Story 2 movie as he was fixing Woody... "you can't rush art".

Anyway... the set is ready (I already took it to the last 2 IPMS events here in Mexico). Here are advances I made to complete the aircraft.

First pic is one of the support pylons to attach the Shuttle. I set it with a toothpick on it, so the Shuttle can be removed from the aircraft.

Richard... I hope I met the expectations... if not at 100%, maybe above 90%.

Thank you Alfonso!

A little more. The engine covering cone. That was a new experience for me on the AXM shuttles. It came very neat.

Handsome models

Very nice job, Gerado! Harking back to you query, I beleive the two additional tail surfaces might be referred to as 'end plates' though that is usually associated with wing surfaces...

So, now that you've conquered the challenge, was it fun?

Thank you very much, guys!

@ Robert... yes it was a LOT OF FUN! The only place I had to think hard about was the wings support elements, but other than that... everything is just great.

And now... I present you... the Shuttle Carrier Aircraft and Endeavor... My homage to the final Endeavor Flight.

I want to thank Alfonso Moreno and Richard DeVries for their effort and commitment with these models. Kudos to you guys!!
