The model was developed with specific materials in mind, and they are called out in the instructions. The paper and cardboard was chosen based on wide availability. The use of "alternative" materials is up to the builder. Billy has demonstrated the potential of using alternative materials to incredibly impressive levels. But realistically, I would expect most builders to assemble the CM straight off the pages.

Hope this helps,

Ken

I still have 22 sheets of the above mentioned silver paper that I bought several years ago. Billy how many sheets did you use building your model?

I found silvered (metalic) cardstock at HOBBY LOBBY, in the scrapbooking section--fairly inexpensive, too.

Here's the escape-tower,
@ Tim, I counted 12 pages that contain metallic parts, but the are a bit scattered around, if you would re-arrange the parts it could go on maybe 6 pages, four pages for the outer-shell, and all small parts for the hatches and docking mechanism

Hi Billy, great work there. Can you tell and/or show us how you did the circular part of the latticework in the LES?
originally it should have been a torus but that is one of the most impossible shapes in paper. So I am very curious how that piece looks close up...

Ken solved that problem ( which can't be done in paper) by giving that center -ring 6 faces;
