Red River Replacement?

I am even thinking of cutting my teeth at designing by making a simple Service Module. I am definitely saving my remaining Red River paper for this!
Ken, had a suggestion: to avoid the black outline of the white parts, perhaps make an option of printing a mirror-image, that way you could cut out the parts on the line, then turn them over so only virgin white shows.
BTW, how many pages is this likely to be? Wondering if I should make a bulk purchase of card and ink .
Does anyone have a replacement source for Red River paper?

Red River question follow-up

I asked the question earlier about a replacement source and have been looking as well. I find numerous papers labeled: metallic silver, but none as bright in sheen as the Red River. What I see on the web for other sources looks the car color metallic silver, which looks almost gray - like all those Mercedes and BMWs imported into the US.

Perhaps there is source for a polished aluminum finish??

Smile Digital Ground option to Red River

However, there *is* a very doable option. There is a ground you can use called Digital ground by Golden.
After applying two layers of the stuff, you can simply use an inkjet printer to print it all out. Afterwards, you apply an extra layer of fixative over it to avoid smearing.
(I read you don;t have an inkjet, but you could try this at your local copy centre - they might also have an inkjet printer..)
But anyway, this works.
From Dec 18, 2012

Turns out the Winchester drive part of my brain remembers more than the other :-) There are several stores in my area that apparently carry the Golden Paints product. I will have to go see and continue to see if any printers in my area have ink jet printers for hire.

I'm wondering if a re-watching of "Apollo 13" wouldn't be a bad idea for those contemplating this model. I watched it on HBO yesterday and thought modelers could catch a lot of good interior detail. (But ignore the fact the movie's special-effects people screwed up the Saturn V's markings....)

I have been working on the Main Hatch today. What you see here is the machined door structure, and outer panel; none of the latches, hinges, mechanisms are added yet. This door is going to get MUCH busier in the next few hours.

Picture 1 - Shows how the door structure is assembled

Picture 2 - Inside of the door structure

Picture 3 - Outer door panel (there is a thin clear piece of plastic in there)

Picture 4 - A view inside the CM (the door frame is not yet in place)

Picture 5 - A little tight, but it fits the opening in the outer shield in case someone wants to show the door in the closed position

I'm sure all of us here know the difference between history and Hollywood. That said, watching the film may give a modeler insight into the CM's interior that can't always be gleaned from poring over old photos and diagrams. I found that watching the movie helped me understand the spatial relationships (pardon the pun) of the CM's internal features.
