I think that this is going to look good on top of Greelts Saturn V.
I have done many of your models and find them to be accurate and precise. Looking forward to building this one in the future.

So Ken, when you finish this maybe you should make a Soyuz and ASTP docking collar. And what the hell, a 1/12 Skylab could be cool too. Although I'm guessing that to go with the Astronaut you might be thinking more along the lines of a LEM and rover? No matter what, I'll be buying this on release day!

You'd be better off just using mos95b's CM, after all it's done and it's a lot smaller. It would be easier to scale that to Greelt's Saturn V (which isn't even a complete model from what I understand)

I've never had much of an interest in building "Real Space" or even Sci-Fi stuff, but have always had a lot of respect for what you guys do especially your attention to details and recreating them in model form.
I sometimes silently lurk the more popular threads, but this one has forced me to come out of hiding and say WOW! I've always admired your work Ken, and have to say I will be watching this one with a keen eye... Good luck with your attempt to "lure the masses" if anyone can do it, you sure can! I'm also looking forward to the day you run out of planes and space stuff to design and decide to turn your hand to Trucks, Earthmoving Equipment and other construction related subjects (was that subtle enough? ) |

This is a pretty good model with stage 1VB and Saturn V third stage. That pretty much completes Greelts model. I prefer to have the greatest detail I can get which is why I am glad to see Ken taking this on. This is also why I use Greelts model, because he takes a lot of time on the details. It's too bad he got burned out on the model design. I think he finished with the interstage structure and the J engines. His thrust structure is the best I have seen. I have no problems with changing scale. So once again I am looking forward to putting this on top of my Saturn V.

Today, I started working on the heat shield. Basically, it is a series of concentric "onion rings", that build up to the shape of the heat shield.
Note that the joints are staggered; giving it the needed structure. The strength is surprisingly high. Once the inner structure is added, I'll be able to sand down the joints and fill/sand/fill/sand. Very rough at this point, but it turned out better than I anticipated. Now, on to the inner aft structure... Ken

That's SERIOUSLY big...
And TERRIFIC work... blows me away. What will you use to fill/sand/fill/sand?? Later! OL JR
