Hmm, I think I’m liking the paper grab bars better than the metal. Easier to build anyhow. Couple items are “in-progress” on these pics. PMA-2 is missing the grapple fixtures as I prepare to install a bit of steal to content magnets too and also the cranes of STS-96 and 101 (one of two Strela and the OTD). It’s also possible I used the wrong docking adapter on the aft end of Zarya. Got my temporary parts bin mixed up.

I’ve been busy continuing my assembly over the summer even though I haven’t updated posts in a while. Continuing with mission 2a are the closeups of the Stella and ORD cranes.

And finally Mission 1R Complete. Zvezda I was really trying hard to add the grab rails that fit around the curved surfaces, but it really turned into a challenge beyond my skill level. Another hard - and abandoned - task was plotting all of the external experiments that have and continue to be added outside of Zvezda and the ISS as a whole. I am trying to organize a spreadsheet plotting external component additions and their removal times. But combining all of the resources into one coherent timeline is just about a job onto its own, and still leaves out the research and modeling for the parts. Ah well.

I did scratch many of the antennas and added extra detail to the solar arrays.

The keen eyed will note that I have not installed the debris shields and some other antennas. These at least I am staying true the assembly sequence and will tag in as the model gets to that phase. Everything is press-fit together at this point using AXM's alignment tubes.

Thanks Phantom. Here’s progress MS 1-3 that arrived at the station to deliver logistics supplies in August 2000 ahead of STS 106. 1-3 was undocked and MS 1-4 arrived later in November, docking to Zarya’s nadir port. And yes I’ve started a spreadsheet to keep these timelines straight and no it isn’t comprehensive and yes I’m constantly finding new resources to add to it which yes continues to be very frustrating.

Unity

I recently completed the Unity module of the ISS. This is my first papercraft model and my second attempt building this module. I am happy with the results.

Destiny

Taking the experience from building the Unity module, I tackled Destiny. It has a diameter of 4" and a length of 8". The detail of the kit provided by Alfonso at AMX Paper Space Scale Modeling is amazing.

Leonardo

Completed the Leonardo module. I am getting better. I read this thread and picked up some nice tips and techniques.

I cheated and used my Silhouette Cameo to cut reinforcing rings for the internal structure. This greatly improves the shape and rigidity of each module.

I used Q-tips for the cable mounting points on Unity. I then found some 30AWG wire that replicates the external cables well. They plug right into the Q-tip connectors.

Lesson learned......1) have the directions handy when building and 2) Do not have a movie or video playing as you work. I ended up putting the module ends on the wrong side of Unity. I also did a poor job of alignment of the components. I will do a better job on the next one I build. This is a prototype I am using for experience.

Pma 1

The PMA #1 was a real PITA. I attempted this three times before I was happy with the results. I would like to replicate the external wiring. I will accomplish this on the next build. It is held on with a magnet. lesson learned here is to use stronger magnets. I went cheap in the beginning and later switched to the smaller rare earth magnets. Much happier with them.

Hvt

I felt confident enough to tackle the Japanese HVT KOUNOTORI 3. Again, the kit Alfonso provides makes a novice like myself look better than I am. The model went together extremely well. The hand rails slow me down greatly. I have completed two of the 18 required. For the HVT, I am using paper clips formed one-at-a-time. The solar panels were printed on plain paper and then covered with clear packing tape. If I were to do it again, I would use a lighter (thinner) packing tape.

Overall, I can not complain. I will hang this just off of the ISS as if it is holding to dock.
