P0 Truss

Working on the P1 truss and wanted to simulate the fabric texture. I glued Kleenex tissue to the area between the metal structure. Not sure if it was worth the effort.

Joy! Oh Joy!

I just came back from the printshop with sir Alfonso's kit for the 1/100 ISS! I can't wait to follow in your footsteps and build it. I plan to do a bit like Robert Mays (A"Mays"ing Papercraft) did and build it chronologically and hang the evolving result on the ceiling of my office, although I'm a little scared that the fluorescent lights will tarnish the colors over time. Do you have a solution for this?

Allen,

I sprayed my printed parts with a clear gloss lacquer prior to assembly. It is a UV protectant. My model is hanging at the office next to a florescent light also.

After I sprayed the parts that I will be working with, I allowed them to dry in the sun. Lacquer dries quickly. After it is sprayed, it is wonderful to work with. It produces clean cuts and crisp folds. My experience is after a few days, the paint has fully cured and the paper becomes brittle. Only paint what you will be building that day.

You will enjoy the build. Alfonso has produced some beautiful artwork that assembles well and any scale. I enlarged my parts by 228% giving me a 4 inch diameter modules.

I am building another space station based on the experience from my first model.

Many thanks for the tips Hawk3y3, I'll do that.

4 inches diameter modules!! I would need a bigger office (or a higher ceiling) :-)

First try with UV protection

I wnt to the art shop and came back with some sprayabe UV protection. After talking it through with a kind lady, I chose to go with Krylon at $14 cdn a can. I took one gloss and one matte for flexibility with my projects.

I sprayed the first two pages of the Zarya module and hung them up to dry on the clothesline, just to annoy the nosy neighbors a little bit...lol!

Truss S0

I am having one hell of a time with this module. I did not align it well. I believe most of the inaccuracy will be hidden by the outer layer. Other than that, is has enough detail for the limited visibility from the front.

Truss S0

Added a few pieces to enclose the truss structure. for the back wall, I laminated metallic tissue with copy paper. This added to the visual interest.

S1 Truss

Took a break from the S0 truss to work on something more simple. The S1 truss went together quickly and looks great. I changed a few things to increase the visual interest.
