Uggggggggggggh. This model is kicking my butt!

Got the High-Gain Antenna looking just the way I wanted it. Glued it to the supporting structure early last evening. Realized this morning I glued the *&^%$# 90 degrees off from where it's supposed to be!

Wash. Rinse. Repeat. I think I can save the dish and not have to make a new one. More to come.

Thorsten,

I hate to bother you again, but do you have anything on the attitude thrusters? I have all the pix of the Pioneer H at the National Air & Space Museum, and still can't figure out the shape! How did you handle those structures on your model?

Les,

Not a problem!
Look again into the drawing I posted on the first page of this thread. On each side of the HGA side views of the thruster assemblies are drawn, and on the back-view of the HGA you can see them too. They are covered in boxes which are mounted onto plates on the struts.
On the side where two struts go through the HGA dish, there's a small instrument on one side of the plate, but I don't recall it's name in the moment.

Is this sifficient?
If you need more information, you'll have to wait a few days until I have time to look into my files in more detail.

Thorsten

Les,

did you make any progress on this? It's one of my favorite spaceprobes, and your build looks promising!

Gang,

Here's a couple more WIP shots of my 1/24 Pioneer 11. As is so typical with my experience in building this model, the high gain antenna snapped off the support struts just before I was going to take the pix!

The build is taking so long because I'm replacing most of the detail parts and adding others. I spent a month in the throes of AMS trying to fill and eliminate the round seam in the HGA before saying, "screw it." There's plenty of dings in the paint and foil that need to be fixed, too.

Thorsten posted a drawing in the thread that has been invaluable. Mucho thanx!

So...the adventure continues. Stay tooned!

Les,

that's beatiful work! Your details, especially on the HGA-feedhorn are great!
I know I shouldn't nitpick, but there's one thing you could correct fairly easily: The sunshade below the HGA feed is closed at the bottom, the inside is red and the outside is white. As I remember, it protected the feedhorn from the focused light which is reflected from the bright HGA dish. Communication quality is not influenced because it is transmitted through the sunshade material (I hope I didn't memorize something wrong, if I did, please someone correct me!). You should be able to get the correct outline for the part by printing this part of my drawing at 200% and fold it on the dashed line.

I'm very happy that my drawing is of help for you!

Best regards,
Thorsten
