Question Chris Davis' SA-5. A Question.

Has anyone built this model? I am at the point where I connect ...well, a connecting ring (NC 5) to the upper Nose Cone Assembly (NC 4) and according to the instructions, you are suppose to connect NC 5 to the inside edge of the NC 4 assembly. Okay, my question(s). Is there (should there be) a slight overlap of NC 4 to NC 5? or should these parts sit on top one another flush? It appears that assembled, that the ring is too big anyway to fit inside part NC 4 and will need cut down in length some, but the whole overlap thing and fitting inside of part NC 4 makes me wonder if I'm missing something here or am I over analyzing it. Anyway, I'm sure I've muddied the waters, but if you know what I'm talking about and can help out, I'm indebted. You really cannot tell with the reference photos.

Thanks for your time.
Steve

No problem Steve. Glad you figured it out. Many time just dry-fitting the parts helps.

I built Chris' SA-5 model, and it came out quite nice. I plan to re-build it in the future. My first attempt was passable, but not great.

Good luck.

Another Steve A...LOL

It was the first I did. It actually was my first paper model. And I have redone it, too. but much smaller. And it was better. I love the SA-5. I think it's the best looking rocket of all time. Glad you figured it out. Just tinkering with it can reveal a lot sometimes.

So far, so good. Despite some fiddling, the fit is good. The tubes for the booster, is going to take some time....all eight of them.

Find a good sturdy (plastic) cylinder, just a little bit smaller than the diameter of the paper tubes will be. Roll the paper tubes around the cylinder. Glue the tubes, press the seam with the aid of the aforementioned cylinder inside the paper tube. Best way.
