M2 F2 Proto Build

I have attached a few pictures of the unpainted M2-F2 proto/beta build. I have settled on finishing this model first. I have had a email box full of request for it, (I hope the mercury/atlas fans will wait for a little while).

Is that the one that astronaut Steve Austin (AKA 6 Million Dollar Man) flew? (At least on the serie's intro).

Yes it is the M2-F2 that was shown in the series opening sequence each week. The engines will/can be configured/optioned for all of the test flights using this craft.

Very nice craft to design! I have to admit now that I think about it I'm surprised this one doesn't exist in paper yet.

I think this is the first.

If anyone has done it before. I am open to hints on how to simplify it. I have done my best to try and limit the # of parts and degree of building skill. I will post some more pictures on Monday.

It is going together well. I have found a great silver surface for map to the skin. The questions still outstanding to me are cockpit detail, and landing gear well detail.

Any pictures or drawings of these (2) items would be most welcome. I would hate to finish this up and find that more detail could have been included out of the gate.

The first build, (White paper proto/beta), is not being done with the gear or cockpit detail. I just want to make sure of a god fit. I left this unfinished (2) years ago and have been finding little things here and there that I forgot to address in the first quick test/fit build I did back then.

Have a great day,

Surfduke

NASA Dryden M2-F2 Photo Collection I would guess you have these, but there are a couple nice cockpit pic's if you don't.

I would love to see some technical drawings if they could be found. The Landing gear wheel well and the instrument panel-head-on-view are what i would like to find.

Send whatever you have or can find, (I AM NOT PROUD)!

Does this thread belong in this group or the Aviation group? I put it here due to the shuttle, and nasa legacy issues.

Thanks, Carl! I was hoping you'd be able to get back to this one soon. I wasn't quite sure how some parts went together, so haven't tried to build my copy yet. I may just wait for the textured version now (but maybe not :D).

As a NASA craft, it seems to me this would be the right section to leave this thread in.

I have no problem with it being here. NASA any can go in the PASA section.

I struggled with the idea of designing this little gem a couple of years ago, but couldn't get past the "too complicated" stage. I had so many required cuts to 'smooth' out the skin, that in the end, it looked nothing like the M2-F2.

Can't wait to see your version.
