This was flown on a high altitude balloon from Liberty Middle School in Huntsville, AL as part of a NASA outreach project. I used the LM and CSM from Jon Leslie's site.

Outstanding! Now, we need to figure out something you can use for a (very long glide) drop test on the next mission ...

I'll post information as it becomes available. I couldn't actually attend the launch due to work, though I spent the whole night building the camera payload.

I believe Alfonso is working on a Dream Chaser model for his Atlas V series. If it becomes available, I think the lifting body design would make a great drop test/glide test article.

Thanks, erik

A project I've always wanted to do was a Remote-controlled payload return lifting body. That way, instead of spending 8 hours trying to fish a balloon out a tree, we could just pilot it to a clear, relatively flat spot. Unfortunately, this can't be done, at least under control, due to some FAA regulations. However, I did come up with a non-controlled version that is design to do glide in a spiral pattern until reaching the ground. This would at least eliminate tangled shroud lines.
