1:1 Pioneer 4 with instrumentation
Well, I'm back with the whole 1:1 shtick that I'd left for a bit. I was kinda disappointed with the lack of detail my Vanguard satellite had, so I thought I'd make it up with this model.
Coincidentally, this is also my final project for my technical drawing class. As part of the assignment, we're supposed to draw and isometric and orthographic for our subjects, so here you go: And, I have about three pages of parts done so far:

Nice to see someone else is working on a model of Pioneer 4, too. I made one, about ten years ago, I think.
All I could find were a few fuzzy pictures and drawings made by other people, so all I had was a minute amount of VERY sketchy information. I hoped that ten years later I could find more and better info. A few color pictures, but that's all. I was surprised to see that the real flight article had an aluminum and brass color, not white with black stripes, as is often depicted. Only one part keeps deluding me: the underside with the instruments. No idea what that part really looks like. If anyone would like to share good info about Pioneer 3 or 4, please let me know. I recently installed Inkscape. I still have to learn how to work with it, get to know all of its functions. A ruler seems to be missing, so measuring the length of the parts is something I have to figure out. Until then, I'll stick to my bitmap drawings.... _________ Erik |

Heh, well, it's not a big deal, really. I think the mistake most people make when first switching to something like Inkscape is thinking that it's like a CAD program. Inkscape is meant for digital art, paper model design being but one application. Technical drawings done in this program are, well, drawings; there aren't any fancy doohickeys like end ents or x-form.

Finally managed to get all the parts drawn up! Only gotta do the table of contents, instructions, and some paperwork for my Drafting class before getting started on the testbuild.
and, it's a whopping 19 pages of parts!
