COTS 2/3 Falcon 9

Built both to commemorate the Dragon's first mission to the ISS and as a "warm-up" before I start in on MarkCable's Delta IV, this rocket was finished right as the Dragon hit the water this morning (I was adding the last of the engine bells during the radio black out all the way up until splashdown).

Excellent work everyone, both the SpaceX and NASA teams and Alfonso!

Brody and Bella. I let them come outside while I took pictures.

Most excellent work!

I looked at the 1/48 plastic model of Dragon that Space-X has "authorized." I gotta say, Alfonso's 1/100 version -- which appears eminently scalable -- looks more like the real spacecraft!

Great work! Thanks for sharing.

I hope to tackle the Dragon (that just sounds strange...) as the first model I will have built in over a year (long story) but I'm still trying to collect reference photos of the flight article. So far, I've only seen two photos of the inside of the trunk and they aren't the greatest but they may be enough to fake something. I'm at a point, though, where I always think "just one more" reference photo will do the trick, and that's no way to model. It just leaves you with lots of photos and no models....

Yep, great work!

Stayed up the night of the 18th-19th to watch it lift-off at the 2:15 am launch time(Alaska Timezone), T-28 minutes and my internet dropped me, and could not get back in to watch it.

Really wanted to watch it live, but, didn't get the chance. Missed the actual launch the following Tuesday so,Looks like I'll be watching reruns....

As often, you are nice on topic and with great build. I like the look of that business end of the Falcon. Nice detailing there. Thanks for sharing!

Did you use regular paper or photo paper? I just got me some new silk glossy photo paper and am considering it for use on the AXM F9 as it looks like that is the right amount of gloss for the hull.

I used regular cardstock, but I sprayed it with a coat of satin clear spray paint.

Argh. Silk, satin, all fabrics while we're on a paper forum. Anyway you got the point. Might be almost the same end result. (-:

Nice to see fast(er) design iterations again

A bump here and there - but it looks like it's time for Alphonso and I to update the various Falcon 9 files to version 1.1 ...

I guess so. the changes are quite significant. Although I really still prefer the looks of the "old" version. The length of the new F9 1.1 is aesthetically just not right some way. And I liked the 'hips' the 1.0 has (the fairings at the thrust section, of course). It gives the rocket a bit more of a classic appearance...
