and now, my 1:25 Mars Global Surveyor model

I've designed this model over the past few weeks and am in the process of test building it all now. Here is a sneak peak...

a fuel tank...OoooooOOOOOooooh!

I will be posting more as I get time to work on it.

And then when it's done, I will post the design PDF here for everyone to have a go at it if they want.

If that fuel tank is as small as I think it is, I'm blown away!

Looking forward to watching this progress.

Off to a good start filling in the blanks of the Mars Constellation.

Not to get too far ahead, but you might consider the Soviet/Russian Venus and Mars probes/landers as well --- really big hole in the model-verse.

Goodness Yogi! I looked up the Venera variations alone and I wouldn't know where to begin. I would want to do something that hasn't already been done before. Is there a place of Soviet models that have already been designed so I can weed out and find the ones still needing to be built?

But also, as you said....I need to finish this MGS first...lol...have to fight the ADD. :D

I knew I had an MGS model from somewhere! Mars Global Surveyor Kit

The kit isn't bad, but the open equipment/tankage bays would look better covered up with gold foil. Started mine, but never finished.

Yes, I saw that one (and it appears it's the only one out there) but you pay for it. I'm designing mine from scratch and it will be free. Plus I saw the propellant tanks on that one which are just two pieces of paper put together at right angles to each other. I want more realism from my models than just 2D paper looking tanks.

Here are some more build pics...

I got some free time for a couple of hours last night and finished putting the propellant tanks together, and started work on the main body. The Main instrument housing has a paper pivot I've created, to allow the solar array to pivot along the side axis, and there will be a secondary pivot on each side to allow the solar arrays to "fold" forward or backwards to let the model be configured in any of the solar array configurations that this spacecraft was able to be positioned into. It has a cruise configuration, and an aerobraking configuration, as well as a mapping configuration. This model will allow you to place it any any of those configs you want (I hope - hense the prototype design before I post it).

But anyway, here are some more pics.
