Jeff Lynne:
Saw him performing with ELO in the 1970s
Viewed his excellent video performances with the Wilburys.
Watched him in television performance at the “Concert For George”

Very nice!! I am a great ELO fan of the older albums, up to and including Out of the Blue but am too young to have seen them performing back in the seventies. Must have been an awesome sight, to see this space ship descending on Earth during their shows.
It's sad, but all good things come to an end and Jeff Lynne must be approaching 80 by now. All great names of the past have closed shop one by one; Genesis, Roger Waters, just to name a few.

Cheers,
Erik

The Eagles and Steely Dan are playing in Arnhem soon on what will be their last ever tour.

Saw ELO in 1978 at Anaheim Stadium, Anaheim, CA with Trickster, Kingfish & Journey. OK show, but by the time they got their stage set up with the flying saucer I was pretty burned out.

When I saw them in 1975, the flying saucer had not arrived yet. If I am correct, that "landed" sometime in 1977 (or 1978).

Addendum: After posting the above, I became curious and did a search. Found this on the web:

The Electric Light Orchestra (ELO) made a memorable entrance with their flying saucer during their 1978 tour. On September 7, 1978, this extraterrestrial-looking craft touched down at the Knoxville Civic Coliseum in Tennessee, carrying the band in style!
WBIR was there to report on the ELO tour and the assembly of the saucer. It was a moment that blended music and sci-fi in a way that left fans both amazed and grooving to the tunes.

Its time for another of Dave's memories (whether ya want it or not!):

I saw ELO back in 1978 at CNE Exhibition Stadium in Toronto.
It was an outdoor event, we sat on a grassy hillside.
The opening act was Meatloaf.
I was there, hoping to see Ellen Foley perform with Meat.
However it was Karla DeVito who did the live duties. (also cool)

The ELO stage (behind Meatloaf's band) was hidden under a large donut shaped assembly.
Looked like trusses and beams, if I remember correctly, partially covered with cloth.
When it was ELO's time, lights on the outside of the trusswork came to life to make it look like a big flying saucer.
With the lights flashing and a little smoke, the massive spaceship lifted upwards from the stage.
It rose maybe 10 feet before tilting upward at the front another 20 to 30 feet revealing the stage and band equipment.

The "UFO" was now the lighting rig above the stage for the concert.
I can't remember if the band was already on stage or appeared after the rig had flown.
Since I don't remember it getting dark before we left, it must have been fully a daylight concert,
however the "UFO" rig helped keep the stage shaded enough for the lighting to work.
Regardless, being able to see the metalwork and rigging in the daylight reduced the overall effect of the flying saucer stage.

I don't remember anything else after the opening of this concert, which is odd for me.
I remember bits of every concert I've seen - even the ones where I was very stoned.
Third Pink Floyd show comes to mind...
where I climbed to the highest farthest point of the outdoor arena to experience the multi channel surround sound.
Boy was I flying at that one!

Maybe I didn't enjoy the ELO show that much, it sure hasn't left a big memory.
And its one of the few that I have no photos of.
I always took photos (if I could sneak a camera in), but I lost many photos a few years back in a house flood.
This is of course long before camera phones and digital anything.

I wouldn't say I was the biggest ELO fan, I only really listened to them during the 70s and 80s.
But I'm still a fan of their earlier stuff.
Roll Over Beethoven of course will always be the classic ELO tune, but my favorite album will always be Eldorado.

POST DELETED

Reason for deletion of this post:
In retrospect, interjection of humor into this member’s thread seemed to me to be an (unintended) hijacking. My apologies to this member (Web).
Hope you (Web) will post more images of your model.

Parts of my deleted post can be seen in Airdave’s subsequent responses.
Regards,
Mike
