The "trunk" on Dragon is mostly hollow (empty space) except for whatever they might stow in there-- much lighter than a fully-fueled service module ala Apollo or Soyuz, so there's really no reason NOT to put fins on it and use it to stabilize the capsule during a pad abort or abort early in flight... Just thinking out loud... Later! OL JR

A 1/24 scale dragon would be great no matter what the livery, manned or unmanned!!!

Well, then they should make them at least a little more bat-wing shaped to accentuate the "Dragon" part of the name.

Speaking of SpaceX and Dragons and all,
Alfonso has released his Falcon 9 next generation. Longer, leggier and circular enginer! Instructions are still pending but it all is straightforward building anyway! 1/100 is already available, 1/144 will come soon. All aboard and fetch your glue tubes! The long white pencil is there! |

A bit of humor and "cheery news" posted on other sites...
Modernized Space Camp Allows Kids To Simulate Frustration Over Lack Of Funding | The Onion - America's Finest News Source NASA warned plan to send humans to Mars may fail I love this quote from long-time space policy analyst John Logsdon... very fitting and true... "It's probably the frankest assessment that there is no public demand for space exploration, that we really don't have a goal clearly stated and that the program that is being carried out won't get us anywhere," said expert John Logsdon. However, the former director of George Washington University's Space Policy Institute said: "I don't think the report will change anything." Later! OL JR

I think Alfonso was working on one a while back, but it had stalled for reason or other.

Its been tried before!
Remember the Rotan Rocket. There Primary design resembled Dragon and Dragon 2. That project just made it just under a hundred feet out of many tests. Space Ship 1/2 are light air/space crafts but the power required to send it from an altitude of 45k ft to 328k ft was still quite heavy. In my opinion an energy source we don't possess at this time will be required. I believe this venture will take a while! Unless it is radically redesigned like with boost, stages, etc.
