What If - 1975 ISS
What if Skylab B had been launched instead of winding up in the Smithsonian?
What if the proposed link-up of Soviet and American stations had taken place as envisioned in an early design study instead of the Apollo-Soyuz Test Project? ................................. My model began initially as just an attempt to depict Skylab on orbit with both solar wings intact. I used the John J model as a baseline, resizing it to 1/144. I then recolored the skin to match the pattern dipicted in the David Weeks drawings. I worked on the model off-and-on for quite some time, and after having the the workshop, MDA, and most of the ATM built, I found the Henry Y enhancement set. That's when I radically altered the fate of the model. By poaching the AXM ASTP kit, I now had a period-correct Apollo, Soyuz, and with some tweaks, a Progress as well. John J supplied the Salyut with details (antenna, docket targets, etc.) taken from the Space in Minature book by Mike Mackowski. I rationalized that a new docking adapter would be required to allow the mating of all the spacecraft, and would have to be small enough to fit in the Saturn 1B SLA shroud, with androgenous docking equipment installed. The base is just a picture frame with a piece of foam core inside, and a photo from the ISS glued down. I then took a piece of transpancy film which was then cut to shape and some white paint dabbed in for clouds. While it makes for a nifty 3D effect in person, it doesn't photograph particularly well.

I have zero knowledge of Skylab project,thank you for making me read about it.
Good model.Is this is wall mounted or table top set up?

Difficult to say. Since the Almaz program was alive and well in that time frame I doubt any serious American/Soviet program would have developed. But it is fun to think about it!
 How about a Skylab-Salyut link-up! Wouldn't THAT have been great!?!

|
There were plans to extend the life of Skylab, but delays with the shuttle Columbia doomed the station. I've been messing around with the Orbiter Space Flight Simulator for many years, and one of the members has made the "what if" a reality (inside the simulator anyway).
Skylab 1980. Would have been nice, but nooooooooo.

I really like flying the Skylab 1984 missions. The missions include the initial reboost, followed by the addition of two modules and the extended solar array (note that two "wings" of the ATM array need to be retracted).
A more modern version has also been kicked around, using the second stage of the SLS. But I'm not such a fan of it, probably for reasons of nostalgia. I remember the Skylab missions. It's one of the earliest things that started my interest in spaceflight.
