Sputnik 1 and "Semyorka"
Something old, something new. I just added Erik Te Groen's most excellent 1/96 Sputnik 1 R-7 "Semyorka" launch vehicle to my previously built display of the satellite itself. Mostly stock, but I used a few plastic bits for details here and there, and downscaled the characteristic booster crossmembers from Leo Cherkashyn's Vostok launch vehicle. Making and painting 20 main engine bells does build character!

Ooh that's a nice display, Les. Good job on the rocket, too. Nice detailing.
But.. How did they get that huge Sputnik into that little nose cone? (-; |

Great display! Building the multiple engine bells is one of the things that has discouraged me from building large Russian rockets-I'm lucky if i can get 2 Titan boosters to reasonably match each other. You've done a fine job with bells and the the whole display. Gives me some inspiration...

At least, that's what I think is a good method. Don't take my word for it... (-; |
