Thanks Mike for your detailed explanation of your tools and their handling and also for the link to the paper screw punch, which is a great tool for all paper modelers, I could also use.
Which paper thicknesses you have already applied it? Have you used it for other materials or can you imagine, so even thin plastic sheet to punch up to what thickness?

Heat Shield and Cradle
So I thought about it and decided to make a cradle to hold the model while I was constructing it, and also serve as a form to get a good shape to the heat shield. At the same time I am creating a new honeycomb texture for the shield. Hopefully this will all work out.
This is the concept...and the resulting build of the form/cradle.. This is the concept drawing A see through shot with the heat shield in place. Another look Texture sample of the heat shield concept And the concept built out as a cradle build station \ Form Just a test fitting for size

Very impressive jig...great idea.
Will the honeycomb be applied as an added paper layer to the kit heat shield? Watching with great interest. |

Form and Crew Compartment Floor
So I cut out the crew compartment floor and glued it up using the form to get the required shape correct. Then I went ahead and coated it with Bondo.
About 15 minutes to set up. Then sanded it to shape, using the form to act as a backing. Three coats of gray primer. Sanded between coats. This is a very stiff base to build on. I will most likely go ahead and make a wooden plug and vacuum form this part and also the Heat shield. I am jumping around on these various parts to determine the best way to get the best look I can for this model. I thought about Paper casting these two parts. So that it will remain an all paper model, and will most likely attempt that also. This Bondo part is pretty straight forward and easy and cheap to make. But it is a one off, and messy. Anyway here are some Pics of the result. The walls were just taped together quickly to check and make sure the fit was correct. And it was. The Form The floor laid up and primed Checking the fit
