(Space) Ship in a Bottle

Hello Ladies and Gents

Finally i had my first long weekend since i kicked myself into a deep dark hole called 'Mechanical Engineering Dept', so this weekend i can build a model again, though a quick-ish one.

The model i was building is 1/144 Progress M-SO1 spacecraft from AXM paper space scale model. The Progress M-SO1 is a modified Progress M vehicle (7K-TGM, GRAU Index 11F615A55) adapted to carry 'Pirs' ('pier' or also called SO-1) docking module onto the ISS, The 'pirs' module is docked into the nadir (earthward) docking port of 'Zvezda', while its sister module, 'Poisk' ('Search' or also called MIM-2) was carried by Progress M-MIM2 onto zenith (skyward) port of 'Zvezda'. The finished model will be inserted into an empty bottle for display, much like ship in a bottle

The kit is fairly simple, the service module assembly is similar to AXM Progress kit but the cargo module and fuel compartment are substituted with 'Pirs' module
Assembly starts with service module and the solar panels

The lower part of 'Pirs'

Then the middle part, which contain the EVA hatches

Next is upper part of 'Pirs' with its docking probe, i burnished the rings a bit so it looks more rounded

Finished 'Pirs' mated with Progress service module, simpler antennae is attached, more complex camera and kurs docking antenna will be attached once the ship already inside the bottle

Very nice! And original (at least, I've never seen a spaceship in a bottle!) Charming idea :-)

Well, I remember one from way back..from Addar. But of course it's not paper, or a real glass bottle. What the heck, you're right. This is the first paper spacecraft in a glass bottle that I've seen too!

Wow! It was quite a surprise for me when I saw my PIRS model in a bottle.
Great concept and great build.
Congratulations, you made it look very easy.

Now that's a really cool idea.

Hey mspacemike, I remember those Addar kits. Must have had 6 or 7 in the series. Was about the same time Tonka did a series of historical diorama kits in the late 70s.

What a great idea! Perfect size bottel.
It would be neat to find one with a cork.

Good work on the model BTW!

Humbly
