Orbitial Antares Cygnus Rocket (CR-3) (quick build)

If anyone didn't catch it on the news the Antares rocket carrying supplies to the International Space Station blew up approximately five/six seconds after launch. The fill issue onto why it blew up (and to my knowledge) has not been determined. There was no one hurt on the ground as the rocket fell.

Here is a quick build the rocket in its launch configuration from AXM Space Paper Models. The original scale is 1:100 and I downscaled it to 1:144.

More to come!

Looked at the footage from Wallops Island, and my first impression of this is a fuel pump failure. What telemetry they managed to get im sure will tell the tale. But i'll hang my hat on this for now.

Sure is a shame this happened, I was really looking forward to seeing everything work out.

Okay, time to work on the rocket.

Can't wait to see your build, but its bad this happened. At least it didn't harm anyone.

Ok an update here.I found out this vehicle is a solid fuel rocket. So my previous assumtion was all wrong.Appearently a new solid rocket motor was being used for the first time with this flight. So in this case you have one of two problems here. One uneven burning of propellant,or two cracked propellant, which would attribute to problem number one.

Where did you see that it was solid fueled? The exhaust plumed looked like what I expect to see with liquid (apparent exhaust from a turbo-pump) and the specs list RP-1/LOX. Not ripping on you or trying to be rude, but also when a solid rocket fails it's generally like a bomb going off, and this rocket clearly 'stalled' and then didn't explode until it apparently hit the ground.

The upper stage had a (new) solid rocket motor, the lower stage uses two Aerojet motors (modified Soviet build NK-33) using kerolox (kerosene and liquid oxygen).

I built this model once. Just like all of the AXM models, it is absolutely outstanding. It was a pretty smooth build overall. Good luck to you!
