Is that launch photo real?
If so, those bad sci-fi movies don't like so bad anymore! That thing could be on strings :D Your model looks far better than that :p

As far as I can tell from the web sites I've looked at, that is a photo of the launch. The liquid fueled engines produced almost no smoke. In this photo - of the R2 I believe - the rocket appears to be suspended in mid air. The cloud of steam in the lower right is from the cooling water below the launch table.

A little research - the Black Knight and Arrow used engines with high test peroxide and kerosene rather than the LOX/Kerosene fuels of the US rockets.
All the images of the Black Knight/Arrow launches show virtually no plumes of steam/smoke. I was curious enough to find any images of the Me163 with the rocket firing - this used high test peroxide (T-stoff) but a different fuel (hydrazine/methanol/water - C-stoff). Just like the Black Arrow the Me163 had a virtually invisible exhaust flame. Regards, Charlie Last edited by CharlieC; 08-11-2007 at 07:12 AM. |
