LightSail build

I downloaded the LightSail model and while builing it, I decided to add some extra details to the model.

I used Photoshop to add the real foil texture and split the pieces apart to make somewhat of a 3D effect.

I glued the pieces together and into the main body of the spacecraft.

This is my first try at this and pictures below shows the test build of the model. I think it come out OK.

Someday, I may use real tin foil.

What do you think, any comments, criticisms or ideas are more than welcome.

Dear ghaspacer:
I will also say looks good, I would suggest edge coloring next model so the white edges don't show up. lots of threads here about edge coloring.
Enjoy,
Miles

Nice work there! The aluminium structure looks very good. I agree with Miles on the edge colouring. (You could consider to use watercolour pencils for example. Quite cheap and easy to use, blend with other colours.) But I like the modification!

Very nice job on your LightSail. The foil work/aluminum is really good. I'm very interested in this. I sent you a PM. Thank you for sharing and I really like the LightSail a lot. wc

Coloring edges

Thank you guys, I looked up some edge coloring tips on the forum and copied down some information.

I often use black or brown makers on the darker edges on my models but did not have the proper materials for the lightSail model.

I'm going to buy some Water color Pencils and give them a try.

Nice job! The original box design was intended to make a quick easy build. Feel free to modify, add parts, etc. to make it yours. I should get the full-scale model posted shortly. It's a three box design so might lend itself well to your mods to make each section as detailed as you desire.
Rather than tin-foil, you might consider using a silvered plastic sheet (or silver-gray trashbag) to make even more realistic sails.
