AXM's 1/48 Space-X Dragon V2

With the humidity finally broken, I thought I would start a new project.
I didn't want anything too complicated over summer, and thought this would be a nice build.
I have been following Space-x for a long time, and love that Alfonso decided to do this model.

First up was the main body of the craft. This was straight forward. I did preshape the edge of the heatshield.

Assembled the heatshield, then tried to dry fit it to the bottom. To keep those petals in alignment was going to be difficult. So printed out a copy of the heatshield and assembled it inside out. Using this as a former, glued it behind the petals, one at a time. This aided in keeping the petals in alignment.

The heatshield went on easily with this method.

Next up is the construction of the dome.

I tried to assemble the dome with the glue tabs and was having fit problem. Reprinted the parts and removed the tabs for the bottom three rings and installed tabs to the back of the rings. I was much happier with the result.

Next up are the four Super Draco Rocket Pods.

Good Gay.
Started on the Super Draco Rocket Pods. Their assembly is straight forward enough.

Found it easier to glue the top of the pod down first, then glue the bottom fins down after. Gives a much better result.

This finishes the Command Module and am now moving on to the Trunk.

Good evening.
I've been working on the Trunk. No fit issues.

When attaching the fins, I found it easier the glue the top half first then the bottom half.
I also found that you can use a copy of the body of the Trunk to make the coupling ring used during this test to simulate Dragons mounting to Falcon.

I'm in the process of making a simple base to display this model, loosely based on the launch pad.

This will soon be done.

Good evening.

Finished assembling the base this afternoon, mounted the Mounting Ring and the Trunk.
This evening placed Dragon on top of the Trunk.
I'm calling this one done.

Adding the base and mounting ring really sets this model off.

I want to thank Alfonso for producing a fun model to build and a timely subject.

Hi Papermodder,

Congratulations for a beautiful and clean build. The base and docking ring is a perfect addition to this model.
I am glad you had fun and once again thanks for sharing this model.
