1/96 Delta II Deep Impact LV

Gang,

A couple shots of the latest addition to my Rocket Garden: a 1/96 Delta II that launched the Deep Impact asteroid-blaster in January 2005.

I downscaled Erik te Groen's most excellent 1/72 kit to build the model. It has a few added plastic bits, including the cable runs and the tops of the nine solid rocket boosters, which I made from ballpoint pen tips. Space Geek note: The #6 solid booster exhaust nozzle is supposed to be bigger than the others visible. When the Delta II mounted nine solids, the #4,5 and 6 solids had the larger exhausts.

Overall, a satisfying build. Mucho thanx to Erik for his great models!

Isn't that more like upscaling? Downscaling is making stuff smaller, isn't it? 1/72 is larger than 96th.

Anyway, it's a nice model. And well made too!

Original kit is 1/72. I made mine smaller, 1/96.
