1/96 Shuttle Stack

My current build is a 1/96 Shuttle stack to complement my (hopefully) 1/96 Energia. Eventually I plan to build the respective Shuttles for each.

For the stack I am using the 1/100 Shuttle stack on jleslie48 resized to 1/96. Since I just finished the first SRB, I figured now was a good of time as any to post some pictures.

First the External Tank. One picture of the cone pieces, which for some reason remind me of onion rings. Then a picture of the cone together, as well as the entire tank. I still need to put all the attachments, and details on it.

First SRB

I finished the left SRB for the stack. Overall I did mostly what the model asked for, but i didn't like the 2D lower attachment point, so I made my own. Not bad for my first ad hoc design element.

So I will have pictures later, but when finishing up the second SRB, I made lots of crease lines in it. So have to do that part again.

And then even worse, I noticed the Aft fairing on the first completed SRB is backwards. This will be fun.......

Where did you find a 1/96 Shuttle and stack? Or did you just enlarge a smaller scale model?

It is 1:100, but close enough to easily resize without effort.

P.S. Cool, I can do links now

Ah, yes, the Fortezza model and LHV stack. I have that in my pile, somewhere :D

Build is looking pretty good so far, can't wait to see the finished stack!

These are FUN to cut, especially when you use a different method afterwards and don't need them.

I did the lower attachment point different for this SRB. Instead of using those paper pucks, I rolled a strip around the column, which worked MUCH better.

Several mistakes on this one too, for example I screwed up the Gimble fairing, so it actually has 25 segments, vs 24. Oops.

Overall, while not perfect, the SRBs aren't bad.

Welp, I somewhat screwed up the picture order there. Those last two got put in the thumbnail, and replaced by others.

Nevermind fixed the pictures
