1/32 Kepler telescope

What better way to wait for a blizzard? Finish a model!

Here's my build of NASA's Kepler telescope. I upscaled the Paper Replika card model from 1/48 to 1/32, and added lots of scratchbuilt stuff to the lower section. The gold foil came from a craft shop; the silver foil is the ordinary kitchen variety.

Launched in 2009, so far Kepler has found 1,039 cofirmed exoplanets -- worlds around other stars -- with more undoubtedly to come.

From your beautiful photos it is easy to see all the time you put into this very detailed model. Great job. Can I ask for a link to the store where you bought the gold foil? The wooden stand also really helps to show of this model. Thank you for sharing. Very nice work. wc

I suspect the foil came from A.C. Moore or Michael's, but I'm not really sure.

The wooden base was something like $1.29 at A.C. Moore. I stained it using Minwax Wood Finishing Cloths. I was skeptical how well the cloths would work at first, but I've used them on several bases with excellent results.

Thank you for your help. Out here on the west coast I've heard of A.C. Moore but Michael's yes. I have one of these stores very close by but they don't keep up on there stock very well and the employees are of a not caring bunch so I have to travel about 30 miles away to another and it's like Disneyland to a modeler. I spent more time just wondering around and looking and ran out of money. What a different. I'll give that store a try. Thank you very much to the help. wc

As always, a very eye catching and pleasingly well-made model. I also do love the stand. And Kepler of course is an awesome telescope. Well done, Les, another beauty for the collection!
