Thank you, Carlos.
By modifying a V2 (A4) with stumps of wings to increase the range and a cockpit for guidance, the Germans created the A9.
It will serve as the second stage of a massive rocket, the A10.
They hope to be able to cross the Atlantic to bomb New York.
However, the project is not a priority,Hitler preferring a greater production of V2 and it will never be realized.
Fiddlersgreen model for the A9 and Nighthawkstudios repainted for the A10.

Some angles make the A9 look like an X-15.

Now that would have been a more exciting Atlantic crossing than in Concorde, methinks, but if the A9 contained the explosive payload, I wonder if it had an ejection seat? Did they have them back then, or was it envisaged as a fanatical suicide mission?

If I'm not mistaken, the Heinkel He 219 was the first plane equiped with ejection seats. The Do 335 also had them.

I think it will be very difficult to leave a rocket diving at four times the speed of the sound even with an ejection seat.
Probably a suicide mission.

That'd require a very forward-facing launch!
