Another Mir thread - 1:144
Hello guys,
took me time, I wanted to do it for like 2-3 years now? I finnally got around the Mir space station. I took John's nice Mir as a base, but did some changes, like the panels textures. You can see those changes here, on the printout. Choosing the little thingies I designed based on the Czechoslovak Salyut model. That's not part of the model, just a homemade pizza break. Yes, I placeholdered the panels on the wrong hull... Corrected here already. The docking port. I didn't like the original one so I used the one from AXM ISS paper model. Might have made it a tip bigger though. So, here goes the Mir base block, also known as DOS-8. Thread will follow.

Kvant
Sooo, here goes the second module, the Kvant.
It is an interesting thing - the only module based on the original Mir design (all other were refurbished FGB blocks from the suspended TKS space freighter spaceship). You don't get to see it here, but the Kvant looks much like Orion (I absolutely love how it's spelled in English - we here just spell it Or - yon). Those panels are long. Maybe cause I made them a bit longer... Here it goes, nicely set up, Mir around 1987 - except not, cause back then there were no Kvant panels on and no VDU on the Sophor boom. This one was quick.

Soyuz
Soyuz craft, mans, how I love those little things... Made like dosens of them with different paints. Not counting the Shenzhous.
Ready! Cut! Go! Now, this is a total bull***** gentleman and noble ladies here gathered alike. It says Soyuz USSR on the hull, but the panels and the painting are those of the Soyuz TMA. The TMA model was introduced into duty in 2002. No more Mir at that time. Not to mention the USSR... But, hey, who cares anyway, those scriptures are nice. Thye whole set, base block, Kvant and a manned Soyuz docked at the aft port. This thing is 1:144 but it's still pretty big - 19 cm, some 8.5" for all of you not blessed with the simple metric system. Goes well I guess.

Kvant 2
Now, this is nice. The first "big" module. One of those four "rays" of Mir, based on the FGB block from TKS.
I didn't add the antennas here, all the stuff used was enough. The hull is ready. And the equipment. I notice John omitted the wieheisster on the top - so I used a spare copy of the VDU which basically looks the sam. And then I ran out ot pattex glue and had to postpone the assembly of the panel. Will most probably do it tonight. I have totally no idea how to glue it to tha main docking port though - might use termal glue, that I used to fasten the panel wires in all the craft. I just hope the docking ring is strenghtened enugh to hold the model, which, due to the presence of the termal glue in certain point inside the hull is a bit heavier than just paper. I'll find out soon. The thread will go on.

Next - Kristall module. The one that had the Buran docking port, that was later used by US shuttles.
Again, I made changes to the thing, using the Zarya docking node. I went for the folded panel look from the final days of Mir. The printout. The panel texture has also been changed, I used my "standard". I looks nicer, even if not quite true The hull is here. This is everything assembled, but I will be adding the APAS flaps to the side docking ring (the axial will be fitted with Shuttle Docking Module). I will also cover the black circles with gray paper, they don't look good. Now, guys, got any ideas how to fix it properly to the DOS dicking ring? The bottoms are filled with thermal glue. I thought of just drilling holes, running stiff wire through the dockin nodes and gluing the module with the wire fitting inside. Any other ideas maybe?

I remember seeing an ISS build on here where the modules were connected using aluminum tubes so they could be attached and removed.

I want to ave them fixex permanently. Also, a bit late for anthing inside unless I drill the bases :D
Anyway: Kristall after some minor amendements. Some painting changes for the Docking Module and some addons. Mir Docking Module. Кристалл + стыковочный отсек. Next: Spektr and Priroda modules. If the time stimms, I'll be fitting everything together on Sunday.

Spectre
Thank you!
So, the quest (but not the airlock) continues. No real changes to the model, just the panel textures. Here goes the hull. And that's it for today, gotta get up Saturday morning, daughter's got her first ride in the new stable and my son want's to join me for some photoshoot, so I can't stay up late (it's half past eleven here now). I'll go on with the Spektr soon.
