1:12 X-24a

Well I have been working on and off on this for a couple years
this is my latest re-start from scratch.
the Scale is 1:12 which will make the model 24.5 inches long when completed
I want to use a Major Matt Mason as the pilot.
Just cause I see them as major problem areas the canopy, nose and leading edges of the outboard wings will be vacu-formed. Everything else will be cardboard or paper.

This is like revision 7 of the interior structure. This is already a very slow project but sooner or later I will get it done

a couple of the cross sections are not quite wide enough, and this is only the front 80% but I am quite happy with the progress.

Looks like it's going to be quite a model!

Just figured out why my 3 formers were too small, I will recut new ones tomorrow morning (This time of year it is tough to get free time on the laser cutter at the hacker lab) and then glue the structure together. Then I plan to skin it with graph paper and then translate the graph paper pieces back into a paint program to paint.

Oooo. I saw the X-38! If you need any shots of that thing let me know. The local museum has one of the few prototypes ever made (the exact one in your photo actually). I think I already have a full/near full walk around set of photos.

Excellent. I vaguely recall someone scratchbuilding the x-24A in a Fine Scale Modeler magazine article years ago. He used wood or cardstock frames, and then filled the frame with plaster to complete the shape, rather than use paper or other material to cover it.

Interesting project! I'll follow for sure.
I started my own project some time ago and here some screenshot of the work in progress.
May be your project could give me some motivation.
Best, Nando

Exclamation The 6 million dollar man machine!!!!

Ah yes, from that 1970's show. I remember it well.

All the crazy NASA projects. Lifting body plane from hell.

I saw it at the USAF museum in Dayton last month ( again ). Picture I took here:
