Well. So stage one is (nearly) finished and brilliantly at that, if I may say so. Keep at it Kevin - you're doing fine!

Dear Peter, rifleman and Elliott.
Thank you for all your encouragement. Your comments (and those of everyone else) mean a lot and help spur me on with the build. Glad you are enjoying the thread. Regards Kevin

Moving the 1/24 model and some "display" photos
Dear all
It is time to try and move the model and see it all the structural work actually does what it is supposed to do (ie hold the rocket together!). With stage one weighing at a little over 10 kg (22 lbs) the weight of the rocket is not insignificant. So I wanted to lay it horizontally. I have discovered that this takes two people. It only just fits in the room. Once I got stage one horizontal on a simple stand I added the fins and F-1 engines. I took some pictures but some of them were pure guess work since I had to hold the camera against the wall for "full" model photos. Here are the ones that came out okay-ish First some length-ways from engine end Then one from the "top" of stage one looking back Next with the interstage with the rocket in a "separated" layout The rocket seemed to be holding up well and no sign of bowing so I took some more photos from the other side (can you see Gunter and Wernher in the last photo of the three below? Then some to try and give some scale of what it is like to be next to the real Saturn V And one final photo to play "spot Gunter" So the model (so far) passed its first horizontal structural test. Phew! I now am beginning to really understand just how big this model is (so far). As you can see it already fills the biggest room in the house. I am not sure what I was thinking when I started, probably I was not thinking at all! However I am really enjoying the build as well as writing and reading this thread. Hope you liked the pictures Regards Kevin

You're going to need a bigger dining room table. Actually, you're going to need a bigger dining room....
Fantastic job of modeling. This one is destined to be a classic of the genre. |

This is an absolutely amazing model. You're going to need a silo to display it!

Kevin,
This is an OUTSTANDING build. If, when you finish, you don't know where to display it, I've got a great educational museum in Fresno, CA that would LOVE to display it as a centerpiece to our aerospace exhibition. Mike |

This build is ridiculously awesome. Go big or go home! You should totally enter this into a model contest when you're finished. Just seeing people's reactions to it alone would be priceless!
