I built the LUT from David (EDU-Craft) in 2010 with the Saturn V by Greelt.
It is a wonderful 1:96 scale model.

The model in your post could be also such one.
But excuse me, do not be angry, because some things could be better, e.g. look at the non-colored edges ...

Beautiful, fantastic models. Congratulations. I am planning also to do this models, both the rocket and the LUT but in 1/48 scale. Greelt's Saturn V, as you know is 1/48 scale. Don't you think if built to 1/96 scale, some detail might be lost, mostly on the F1 and J2 engines?. The lunar module you show, where did you get it? Again, congratulations.

Look into the download-section of this forum, manned space.
You can download all parts of the Saturn V in 1:46, also the eagle, in one packet.
I have downscaled all parts to 1:96.

It's possible...

Thank you very much for your help. The pictures you show are from the 1/96 or 1/48 scale model?

May I ask two questions: a) Why didn't you build it in 1/48 scale?
b) If reduced to 1/96 won't be too difficult to reproduce the fine detail of both F1 and J2 engines?

a: It's a question of the available place
b: No, is no problem (for me), look to the pics.

Hello Michael

Thanks for the suggestion on how to improve models. To reassure you, I am always grateful for tips and advice from other members, particularly from such skilled modellers such as yourself.

I have found for my Saturn V model that edge colouring is quite an art which I am pretty rubbish at and tend to end up making things look much worse, so have shied away from it. Any tips on how you edge colour (including references to previous posts) are most welcome.

If you are refereeing to the LUT model, then I just want to be clear that I did not make this model. It is not my model. It was simply just on show at the museum I was in so took some pictures. I do agree with you, the LUT would look so much better if edge coloured. To my eyes the red makes the white edges seem more noticeable.

Regards

Kevin

LM repair

Dear all

So the museum exhibition is now over the I boxed up and returned the model "back to base" intending to continue the build.

However the LM had suffered some damage during the exhibition so needed repairing first.

1/24 Apollo/Saturn V (enlarged 1/48 Greelt et al version)-sdc13277.jpg 1/24 Apollo/Saturn V (enlarged 1/48 Greelt et al version)-sdc13278.jpg
1/24 Apollo/Saturn V (enlarged 1/48 Greelt et al version)-sdc13281.jpg

As you can see the LM had made a rather "hard landing" at some point which had caused the buckling of the legs and also the tearing of a support strut.

The damaged could no longer take the weight of the LM so I decided to use paper lollipop sticks (used in previous parts of the model build) to straighten and strengthen all the legs. So I first made 4 pairs of sticks glued together

which were then glued to the inside of the legs.

Then a repair of the strut

1/24 Apollo/Saturn V (enlarged 1/48 Greelt et al version)-sdc13283.jpg

Finally a little bit of of "colouring" over the joins and damage creases and the LM is strong and stable

Now able to continue with the build

Regards

Kevin
