IXS Enterprise - 1/144

So over in this design thread I created the IXS enterprise. I was originally going to do it in 1/96, but that proved to just be too big to work with. So I shrunk it down to 1/144. It'll take a while to build this thing for the first time.

Here is what I have so far. And the full gallery can be found on my website.

I have made more progress on the warp ring. I have one more paper loop to put on either side. *crosses fingers* I hope it all lines up.

While I am hoping that the final loops go onto the ring properly... I am also guessing that it will look horrible. As I think about it, I think I could slice the whole thing in half or quarters (so a half/quarter ring) with a number of radial formers inside it. The hard part with that solution is being able to make the halves/quarters identically so that they mate properly.

Why did I think that building a modified torus would be a good idea?

I'm sure Tesla had the same kinds of thoughts from time to time. Keep on going. You'll get there.

The first warp torus is done... This is the "better" side. The other side I am not very pleased with. It is much lumpier and has a few gaps between pieces. If both sides looked like this, then I'd be happy enough with it overall. I need to play with a few more options on how to get this thing to go together. Any way I arrange it, these rings will be non-trivial to build.
