Ton's Gemini Titan 1:96 - Finally Finished!
Well, I finally finished my build of Ton's Gemini Titan II in 1:96 (fantastic design btw, Ton)! This was my second build and, while I wasn't 100% satisfied with my work, I think it came out pretty good.
I learned a lesson about aligning seams. When I went to mount the engine assembly to the bottom of stage I, I noticed that if I aligned the corners of the engine lattice work with the feed tubes on the body, my copper tubes going to the turbo pumps would run right into a rib on the bottom of stage I. I had failed to align the seam of the ribbed bottom to the seam on the stage I body tube. I simply rotated the engine mount until the copper tubes would end up on either side of a rib. Oh well, I guess there's no such thing as a 100% perfect build...although seeing some the builds here, maybe it's just me. :'( Instead of using copper wire in the engine, I just printed a copper color on some cardstock and used "flat" tubes (I just couldn't bring myself to use a non-paper or glue material - lol). Oh, and I decided to do the recessed hatches as well. Otherwise, it is pretty much exactly as Ton laid out. See pics below... |

Excellent work there friend... be PROUD, be VERY proud of that build :D I made this one also and it's on a thread here... i forgot to make the stand, then lost the parts for it so it stands on it's engines. Tons designs are brilliant. Have tou got the Saturn V and some of his others ? there here on a thread too - I really enjoyed my time making these beauties. Once again... FINE JOB....MORE PLEASE

I do intend to tackle a Saturn V sooner or later. I've been holding out for Greelt to finish his jaw-dropping design and then thought I'd try to down-scale it to 1:96 (yes, I am a glutton for punishment - lol). In fact, right now I'm working on his F1 engine in 1:48. In the end, if Greelt isn't able to finish, I may end up doing a Greelt/Ton hybrid of some sort like some others here have done. Whatever happens, I can only hope it turns out as fantastic as yours, Peter. Once again thanks for the compliments guys, it feels good to hear nice things about your models especially from those that have been there!

Nice build!
I remember watching the Gemini missions on the old RCA color TV in the mid-sixties. Watching Gemini and then the Apollo missions was truly inspiring to me, and in some way I think influenced my decision to become an engineer. I sometimes feel sorry that young kids today do not have the same awe-inspiring events of that magnitude that I witnessed during the height of the space program. Hopefully, we will once again "kick it in gear" and go to Mars sooner than later. Even if we never get there, the journey is where we will accidently find the cure for cancer, invent new materials, and harness energies from sources not yet considered etc... Thinking back on those days, I am reminded of Walter Cronkite. I read where he is not doing well. He was the "voice" of the space program. Ken |
