Nasa Launches Parker Solar Probe
Nasa has launched an historic mission to the Sun with the Parker Solar Probe
3:31 a.m. EDT on August 12, 2018 on a United Launch Alliance Delta IV Heavy rocket from Space Launch Complex-37 at Cape Canaveral Air Force Station. It is humanity’s first visit to a star that will have implications not just here on Earth, but how we better understand our universe. looking forward to see the results of the mission. Two weeks ago, I've started to design a paper model of the Parker Solar Probe which is one of the most difficult design attempts I've ever done. Wish me good luck on this. Zach |

All the very best with your model Zach. Looking forward to following your progress.
The misson certainly is exciting. It brings to my mind the Thunderbirds episode called "Sunprobe" (if you know what I mean). Regards Kevin

Hi Zach,
I am also designing a 1:96 version of the Probe to match my Delta IV Heavy model. It is quite a challenge, indeed. The difficult parts are the curved radiators. All my design so far has been based on photos and all the diagrams available online. I’ll releae it in a couple of days. |

That's great Alfonso, I'm looking forward to add it to your Delta IV Heavy model that I just downloaded. I also use photos and diagrams that I've downloaded for my models as well.
I have not calculated the scale of my model yet, but it should stand around 8 inches tall. I've completed all the parts for three out of the 6 sides of the body. When all the parts for the body is completed, I will do a test-fit build and make corrections if needed. When the body is OK, I will begin working on the heat shield, that should be fun. This is my prototype of the Parker Solar Probe in 1:96 scale. More details need to be added, but the main parts are done.

Here are some progress photos of the test build on the lower half of the model.
Made several corrections on some parts as far as shape and size. Not all detail parts are included in the photos. Next, the boom arm then the solar panels. When those are complete, I will add the foil textures and colors to finish the lower half, then I'll start working on the heat shield. |
