I've long had 66670 on the brain. Been wanting to model it for a long time, and I'm trying to figure out how Ken's model could be converted. It involves some computer work that is way over my head....

Funny, thats not how I read it.
The tail number is very obvious, you see it before you get to read the caption.
The caption states that "the model is 66670 but rescaled and modified".
Having already seen the tail number, I took that as "Ken West's original model is 66670"
I wasn't confused by this at all.
Unless Ken's model is not 66670?
I guess I should check.

Oh I see...Ken's X-15 is 66671. So you haven't modified it that way.
Okay then...you are correct...your caption is misleading! lol
It makes you think Ken West's model is wrong.
Not a big deal though...as I said, the tail number is pretty obvious.
And as I said...a very nice photo.

...
I thought about submitting a pic or two of my Saladin pic...
but everything I have right now is watermarked with my logo.
I could shoot some new photos...
rather, I went looking for their rules and regs (regarding photo submissions) to see if logos would be allowed...
but now I am more concerned with the type of photo?
Did you bother with RAW images or anything special?

I just sent the photos (which I took with my iPad) just as they are on my iPad. I edited the margins, though. I guess they are .jpg format.

Indeed, Ken's model is of the stretched 66671, which was designated X-15A-2. For whatever reason, the stretched 'A-2 is what modelmakers (plastic, resin and paper) seem to go for. It's speed record notwithstanding, the 'A-2 was kind of a dog, with numerous mission aborts and some scary in-flight malfunctions. In fact, the speed-record flight was 66671's final one because the airframe was damaged. And because Ken's model is black, you can't model the speed-record flight because it was covered with a white ablative covering.

From a historical perspective, the first X-15, 66670, was probably more important.

Congratulations. A masterful build of a beautifully designed model. I think it says a lot for our community. We have some extremely talented folks here. Again, a fabulous job.
