Voyager 1/2 (Ton Noteboom's design) build
Built this one a month or so back to celebrate 40 years of the Voyager probes.

I tried a few different tricks with this one. The most important was the discovery that Elmer's Brand School Glue glue is the best for creating laminates for the structural greebles and such, This proved superior to various grades of cardstock, oaktag, and pressboard. Four sheets, a pile of books and clever use of a USB coffee warmer to speed the glue makes for seriously strong ironwork!
Call me crazy, but I have never been a fan of using super glue, it always results in me truly bonding with the models... I generally print on very light gray cardstock, rather than white for spacecraft, ships and planes. This makes laminating layers of scrap cuttings on the "white" parts look great, and I don't have to "cheat" with white paint. |

Last, here is a few poor shots of the completed model. It is just short of a meter long from end to end. I'll get a couple of good ones of it soon, but it is on display as part of our Voyager celebration at work.

Dang phone is being frustrating, but hopefully I can get the finished model pics up soon.
EDIT: Here's the finished model on display at our labs! Last edited by sludge; 10-16-2018 at 08:46 AM. |
