I would like to design a truly big model ( and I will, I have BIG plans........) but for now, let's
stay humble and keep it manageable.

Yes, it's going to be a fairly big model, life size, but certainly NOT as big as a GOES satellite.

Here's another hint: I have less than 4 months to finish the model.

PS....this man knows ...... (see attachment)

I glossed right over the 1:1 scale clue....

Explorer 1 with a full interior? It was launched Feb. 1, 1958.

I thought that, too...but a guy named Rocketmantan already did a 1:1 Pioneer 4 a few years back. I suspect if that's what Erik is designing, his may be easier to assemble. I haven't tried the other one yet.

Look at the attachment.

No more doubts.

Someone gave the correct answer.

This level of detail should indicate that this model will be anything but simple, or easy to assemble.
It's big, complex, it has an awful lot of parts, and to make the model modular (able to assemble/disassemble) I am even considering making all the
little bolts that keep the thing together, out of wood and paper.........

This will be a paper nightmare, not a paper model }-) . Cardboard model, actually. A model of this size is too big for flimsy paper.

However........ I still need an awful lot of info. I would like to add way more parts and detail, but I just can't find anything more than I already have.
I emailed the museum, but weeks go by without any response......

The deadline : March 3, 2019, to celebrate its 60th year since its launch.

Some months ago I was working on the old version, making a better one. I soon realized I could make one in scale 1:1, since I found lots of pictures I
never saw before. I also saw that someone else had made one in scale 1:1, but that one was so bad (with all due respect) it challenged me to make a
better one.
I'll let you all decide whether I succeeded or not.

As small as it was, I wouldn't do it at 1:1. Maybe 1/2 scale.

Attaching the four pix I have in case it helps.

Les,

Don't worry. For you, I made a "Minisat" version. ;-)
Scale 1:10, and with only nine parts, it's an easy build !

Nah, too small. I need one in the Goldilocks Zone, about 1/4 scale.

Good news for you Les,

The example IS the model in scale 1:4.........! ;-)
Why I wrote "scale 1:10", I have no idea. The Minisat model measures 6 cm in diameter, which is 1/4 the diameter of the real thing. If you
include some other external parts, it's +- 26 cm, give or take a few millimeters.

Tomorrow I am going to pick up my order of 90 (yep....ninety !!) sheets of A3 and A4 paper. Two of those are the Pioneer 4 Minisat model.

I'll be busy for the next couple of days. That's for sure............

Les....... I DO expect you to download AND build the model. Ofcourse.......!!?? }-)

I will add several models, this year. One of them has only two parts. Just a fun thing. Nothing special. I saw a nice picture and decided to
make a model of it.
Two very colorful Brasilian rockets will be added, the Russian Lunokhod, a Titan IIIE Centaur, PFS-1, and - finally - MaSat-1 in scale 1:1.

Oh..... and most parts of Pioneer 4 have been drawn and printed. I can't wait to start building and post a few pictures.
Considering the number of parts I'll be busy for a looooooooong time.....

.... the Russian Lunokhod,

Конечно, Bы шутите!

a Titan IIIE Centaur

You might consider a Titan III/MOL as well. Mark Cable was supposed to do one, but it never surfaced, AFAIK.

And of COURSE I'll built the 1/4 Pioneer IV!
