After a series of messes and attempts these are my conclusions: internal cut, without tabs but edge on edge and from the outer ring. The pics I think speak for themselves. I'm not particularly satisfied with the final result (a bit dirty and lopsided), but I decided to continue and eventually redo it later, also because it will have to match the upper cone.

Hi Nando.

I think the heat shield looks good. It is a bit of a nightmare thing to make (or so I have found!). Enjoying the build and looking forward to the next installment

Hi Nando,

how did you fasten the rings during gluing, maybe with tape from the inside?
I think the result is looking pretty cool, well done.

Amazing build so far kind of sums it up. Can't wait to see it finished.

Yes it is, and in addition, reducing at half, the cutting tolerance decreases and every micro bump on the edge doesn’t allow a good adhesion between the adjacent rings.

I didn’t fasten the rings, but, starting from an end I glued small portions of the edge a little bit at a time, keeping it tight. At the end of the process I had to trim for a right fit. When the glue was dry enough, I used a small iron ball to smooth the joint.

Is the original 1/12 Ken West model still available? Does anyone have a website?

A little late to this, but I'll echo what others have said: Can't wait to see this finished!

Aft compartment: walls and details

Finally I restarted working on the model, continuing with the aft compartment and following the instructions. I chose to make the individual parts separately and to assemble them at the end. First I made the four sections of the walls.

Then I moved on to make the peripheral supports. First I made a couple to understand the procedures to be applied to cut, fold and glue these elements.

Now I just have to do another twenty-two.

I bought the model at ecardmodels.com, but the site is under maintenance.

Last Sunday I followed the entire docking maneuver of the Dragon 2 capsule with the Space Station: a complicated ballet with a splendid ending. So I took a short break and I made the model that I downloaded from the website of Alfonso X Moreno (). A simple model that makes perfectly the aspect of the real. Meanwhile work on the supports continues ...

Speaking of Alfonso, anyone heard from him lately? Last website update was January 15, almost two months ago. Unusual for him.
