Yeah, I see your point...
produce some unauthorized models and try to sell them without permission... someone steals your models and sells them elsewhere... what do you do? lol pat yourself on the back and say "my models are good enough to steal!" ... "change 15%" Thats an old myth that probably came from the art world. People used to say that if you changed a certain percentage of a logo or design, it was not a copy any more. This of course is completely false. You could change as much as you want...but if there is even the slightest hint of what you copied, then someone can argue plagiurism.

Some designer does think because they design their models "different" from the original they are in the clear. When I talk to them about it they will come up with all kind of reasons to justify it is their own design. Honestly, I used to think that way too. A big old gray line with enough room for everyone to sell their design on. But, Bandai vs Dragon Momoko proved everyone is theft. LOL!

A guy told me once when I was thinking about selling photographs that if I didn't want them stolen I had better not put them on the internet, and I think he was right. There are far too many people and ways to copy photos , card models or anything else to ever stop it completely. Like Dave said, the first time I found one of my models on another site I was thrilled that I had designed something worth stealing. I have a new design almost ready to go and I may try to sell it, but if I can't get $387,000 for it I'll just give it away.
My 2 cents worth. Dan |

Exactly how I feel. I am hit or miss on the models I make. Many have received comments that they are 'better than what professional designers put out there', but that is only on a few of my models. My current circus project is probably marketable, but I know deep in my heart that even though it has limited availability, some of it is going to be found on the pirate sites. So I give them away for free. So, Mr. All-Wise PeteStein, since identity theft is done over the internet, it is okay? Don't be daft. Theft is theft

When there was no Internet...there was no identities!
Identity is not stolen in the web. It is taken at Apple stores, by Martian tecknology, and put into small animals for use in Circus. Dumbo used to be an airline pilot. Circus identity extraction is a three ringed approach of unstoppable horrors. It it pointless to fight...or post about it...existence is futile.

Fighting piracy in my own way.
Cleaning up a model I made many years ago that I planning to release in my blog after I shoot a build instructions video. Been very busy with life, hopefully, I'll have time to shot it soon. This is how I'll fight piracy by placing watermarks everywhere besides designing my models for large format paper. My thinking is pirates will pirate no matter what. I believe most pirates are lazy or they would have designed their own instead of stealing someone else. Hopefully, once they see the watermarks they will leave my models alone. If not, everyone will know where it came from and where they can get my models legit and free. Yes, the pirate can clean off the watermarks, but I think most pirates won't take the time.

one sort of passive aggressive way to annoy Alice Model could be to use one of the social media button they have to share a given model and include as a comment a link to the original, free model. Just a thought.
