Ah! Hawaii Five-O! I imagine you are thinking of the original 1968 series Vermin_King (Jack Lord and James MacArthur). One of the best TV theme tunes ever I think (I always assumed it was written for the show, but don't know).

Life-Size mits, time to "cuff 'em!"

Dear all

With the mits and cuffs ready it is now time to join them together. I was very aware that the mits need to be centred on the cuffs (and it would be vary obvious to the eye if they were not). So I came up with a "cuff centering device" (also known as a tube) as shown below

Life-Size Buzz and Neil (enlarged 1/4 Ken West "Apollo Astronauts on the Moon")-sdc14483.jpg Life-Size Buzz and Neil (enlarged 1/4 Ken West "Apollo Astronauts on the Moon")-sdc14484.jpg Life-Size Buzz and Neil (enlarged 1/4 Ken West "Apollo Astronauts on the Moon")-sdc14485.jpg

Then tried a dry fit

It seemed to work fine. But just before about to glue I had a go at trying to get the "tube" out from the bottom of the cuff (which is what would to have to happen in the glued state) I discovered a "design" flaw in that I could not get it out! So the cuff centering device version 2 was made

Life-Size Buzz and Neil (enlarged 1/4 Ken West "Apollo Astronauts on the Moon")-sdc14487.jpg Life-Size Buzz and Neil (enlarged 1/4 Ken West "Apollo Astronauts on the Moon")-sdc14488.jpg

Then a quick dry run including a successful "extraction" and so it was good to go ahead and glue. First up was Buzz's left hand.

As you can see the mit and cuff was "clamped" by a ring of bull dog clips (which provided good pressure on the join). Once dry I added a layer of joining strips all around the inside of the join.

So that was that glove/gauntlet finished (other than a detail on the back of the palm which will be added later)

The other three gloves were joined in the same way

So that is the gloves done (bar detail part) and here they are, with one photo with Gene

I know they have been quite a bit of work but I do think it has been worth it. I still am taken aback by how big they are

And of course I had to test one of them

Very pleasing to try on.

Quite surprised by the bulk of the gloves, they look too cumbersome to hold anything.

Thanks asettico. Glad you are enjoying the thread. Remember the gloves are in the downloads section of the forum and it does not take much paper or print to enlarge one glove to full size and just one paper thickness to make a "wearable" glove.

Regards

Kevin
